How I became an Equine Body Worker
|
I have been riding since I was 5. I started out with weekly lessons at Wagga RDA. For my 11th birthday, my parents finally bought me my first pony. After trying a few different disciplines, I found that dressage was passion.
I have competed over the years on different horses from Prelim up to Grand Prix. During this time I noticed that sometimes my horses just weren't quite right. I couldn't put my finger on it. I had a chiropractor go over my horses but the problem didn't go away. It was when I left school I got a job as a receptionist in a physiotherapists office. It got me thinking, if this sort of thing can work for people could it work for horses? Could I fix my horses? In 2006, I attended an equine massage workshop for owners....and I loved it! I had a way to help my horse and it worked. I began to think, if I can help my horse maybe I can help others This started me on my path to become a Equine Body Worker. Once I completed the course, I still wanted to learn more. So I did. It has taken years of study and practice (though I don't think my horses mind being case studies). |

My history with dressage
|
After my parents bought me my first horse, I was signed up for pony club. When my mum was young she used to jump...a lot. So she thought I might like to jump as well. I didn't. She suggested I try dressage and see if I liked that. I didn't...I loved it!!!
My passion for dressage grew. I had weekly lessons as well as lessons with every visiting instructor to Wagga. I started competing in pony club dressage comps, then open comps. Soon we were doing some serious miles. My mum always said she was happy to take me to any comp as long as I worked hard. I have competed and placed at State and National Dressage comps in Pony Club, Young Riders and Open events. I have been as far as Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. Unfortunately, I hit a run of bad luck in my early 20's. Over the span of 2 years I had 3 different surgeries. Once I was finally cleared to ride again, my beautiful young horse I had such high hopes for was diagnosed with a neurological disease. After trying everything to help him, I made the decision to end his suffering. I started on the next young horse, and he was not easy. A lot of blood, sweat and tears (all mine I might add) has gone into this horse and I am happy to say there is light at the end of the tunnel. I understand what it is like to have difficult horses and my experience has given me many techniques and knowledge on how to help others. |
